Busy busy busy

I seem to be constantly working at the moment but not actually getting anything done? Irritating. With exams coming up the workload is only gonna increase but I’m going to try and blog more often because it’s kind of therapeutic...and enables me to procrastinate a little.
I had my photo taken for the local paper this week as I won a bursary from my college. I’m dreading the photo as we had to hold up are hands as though we were celebrating- CRINGEY! Meh I’m pretty sure only about four people read The Herald so it shouldn’t be too bad.
All in all it’s been a good week, the sun has been wonderful and I’ve enjoyed having my boyfriend back after his holiday too. On Tuesday I went to a “SwapShop” my friend was holding- I ended up with a few cool things (I’ll put them up sometime) as well as swiping some stuff for the bf.
Really looking forward to next week- it’s my best friend’s birthday which means crazy partying. Yay! And dressing up. Even more yay!

Was feeling a bit creative with these pictures... the leotard is from Topshop and I got the trousers from Miss Selfridge for a tenner- and I love them!

Sunny happiness,
Gracie

Brighton...

I’m going to Brighton Uni in September to study media and I’ve obviously been to the university itself to check it out but I didn’t really get a chance to look around Brighton itself so on Thursday I visited Brighton as a proper tourist to make sure it’s a place I could really enjoy living in. And it’s safe to say I loved it. The atmosphere was amazing; like a mini London by the sea. We did quite a bit of shopping- it’s a brilliant place to shop- and went for a wander on the pier which was lovely. I left feeling confident in my choice of university and feeling less daunted knowing that I can see myself living (and partying) there...

Peace,
Gracie

Double Denim

I’ve been wearing double denim for a while now, mainly denim jacket and jeans, but I hadn’t gone for two lighter denims as I thought it may look a little OTT- I really like it though! I think it looks super chilled yet classy and I think it clashes nicely with my hair colour too. Bought Quadrophenia earlier so I’m gonna be lusting over a parka even more when I watch it- I want one so bad and I actually found the perfect one in Topshop concessions but my stupid account wouldn’t let me get out any more money grrr... oh well the is always next time.

The jeans are from Miss Selfridge, the shirt from Peacocks and the playsuit is from Urban Outfitters.

Kickass

Was exactly that. I don’t intend to ruin it for anyone in this entry but if you haven’t seen it I would seriously recommend not reading anything about it before you go; I went having only seen the trailer and it was not at all what I expected. I expected it to be good but it is so much better than that. It is becoming increasingly uncommon to find a film that has been created by people who are truly passionate about its subject matter, and that’s everyone who’s involved in the film. When people really enjoy what they are doing it shows through in the finished product. My attention was captured from the very beginning of the film and was held throughout- although that may have something to do with the enormous amount of Kick I was drinking (in the final scenes I’m pretty sure I was having palpitations but, if anything, that only added to the experience). It had the perfect ratio of gore to humour and it wasn’t silly; it was just funny. The factor that Kickass most deserves credit for is the ending. So many films have this huge build up filled with explosions and CGI and the like all to be quickly ended when the baddie is just killed. Dead. There is nothing worse than that anticlimactic feeling- almost like a sort of betrayal. Without giving too much away, Kickass doesn’t let you guess the end; you’re never really sure if they’ll opt for a happy Hollywood ending or a brutal but perhaps more realistic one. And it keeps going. Rather than a smooth escalation to a somewhat disappointing finale, the journey seen in Kickass takes a number of steps which result in the audience being cemented to the onscreen action and feeling for the characters plight. It pretty much pisses on Field’s 3 Act Structure, which is a good thing in my opinion as that structure has been a framework for producing monotonous dross with great ease and great profit.
Yeah, so if you haven’t seen it DO! Obviously the lead actor, Aaron Johnson, is British but it was nice to see a couple of other British faces in a big Yank film. Definitely gonna be a DVD purchase.

London yesterday...

Was just beautiful (so glad we didn’t go today!) It was warm, the sun was shining and as a result everyone was really friendly. Put me in a good mood for spending some brass which was going swimmingly until I run out. I thought I’d just nip to the cash point withdraw some more and resume my spree. Sadly not, a little message appeared on the screen saying “you’ve exceeded your daily withdrawal limit” it’s done this to me before. If the balmy sunshine hadn’t put me in such a happy temperament I might have punched through the screen and got the money out myself. Not to worry though, I managed to buy two gorgeous items (shoes and bag) and I tried on lots of stuff which I can get off the internet so the money will still get spent which is good...
Here’s what I bought. The bag and the shoes were both from Topshop- I love student discount!
I actually made the skirt from a really hideous pair of shorts for a friend for a fancy dress costume- She was Velma from Scooby Doo. It’s really shoddily made but you can’t really tell when they’re on.
Off to the cinema tonight- haven’t been in ages!

Lovelovelove,
Gracie.

Easter Sunday!

Was a yummy day for sure. Instead of a proper egg I get some Ferrero Rocher and three little Kinder Surprise eggs yum yum yum. Had a pretty chilled day overall... my boyfriend came over in the afternoon and we messed around with my camera in the garden. I think he’s a bit jealous of it actually seeing as he’s the real photographer out of us both. It was really nice to be out in the sunshine though. We went to a local type pub in the evening (not local to us I must say) and the warmth of the day had somewhat tricked me into thinking it was summer so I got Magners with ice and the pub was so packed we had to stand outside. It was so freezy. The stars were amazing all the same. Yes it was a good Easter in all, made me want to find myself a nice local pub in which I can just watch the world go by. Cheap too mind.
Today has been good, got some work done and other bits and pieces that I’ve been meaning to do for ages. Going shopping in London Wednesday- so gonna get on it!

Happy Easter and that,
Gracie.

First proper day of Easter break...

So nice not to have to worry about doing anything, although I've actually got quite a lot to do but I'll make a list and worry about that in the week. Not a totally wasted day though- I taught myself how to herringbone plait which I’m stoked about as I’m not very good at styling hair. It looks really intricate but it was so easy.
While in Cancer Research yesterday I came across my best bargain of a long time, a tripod for my camera for £2.50! It fits perfectly in my bag and my camera looks pretty cool sitting on top of it. Haven’t had a chance to use it properly because of the weather.

Love and peace,
Gracie.
